Hotel Review: Sofitel Melbourne On Collins

Updated: Feb 17, 2021

Sofitel Melbourne on Collins is located on Collins Street in Melbourne's CBD. Offering a range of accomodation from classic rooms, club rooms through to suites, all rooms feature amazing city views. We decided to stay here during our Weekend of Theatre in Melbourne due to it being within walking distance of all the theatres we were visiting, you can read more about that trip here. We were able to book this hotel through Virgin Holidays which allowed us to earn points on our stay.

The Room

We were excited to see our club room as Sofitel is known for its amazing bedding and room appointments, its certainly impressive as you walk in the room and see the view from Level 49 of the building. The room is spacious with a king size bed, writing desk and two comfortable lounge chairs. There is a large marble bathroom with a bath shower combination and Les Notes De Lanvin toiletries. The room also has a fully stocked mini bar and a Nespresso coffee machine. We loved the view north east of the building which overlooks Parliament House, The Melbourne Museum and St Patricks Cathedral, its an amazing view around sunset as the last of the golden light illuminates Melbourne's historic buildings.

Customer Service

We found the customer service excellent and could not fault the service at all. The staff in the Club Lounge we always friendly and attentive and made sure you always had what you needed. The lobby staff were also very helpful and friendly as were the staff at the Atrium Bar.

Restaurants & Bars

We used the Club Lounge during our stay for breakfast and evening Champagne and Canapés but did not get time to try out the No35 restaurant but looking at the menu it seems that this restaurant is definitely top notch. At breakfast time you can choose between eating at No35 or in the Club Lounge but as there was always a line up at No35 we ate at the Club Lounge each morning. You can fill your plate up at the breakfast buffet plus they also have an al a carte menu if you want something cooked to order like Eggs Benedict. We had several nightcaps at the hotels Atrium Bar which were all excellent and there is a large cocktail list to choose from. Overall we were very happy with the food and beverage offered by the hotel.

Summary

As mentioned we were very happy with the food, drinks and service that the hotel provided. The rooms were spacious, chic, tidy and all have amazing city views both day and night. The hotel is also within walking distance of many of the cities main theatres so for people looking to do a weekend of theatre you cant beat its location. We would highly recommend the Sofitel Melbourne on Collins to anyone looking to stay in Melbourne and will definitely be staying with them again sometime soon.
