Hotel Review: Spicers Potts Point
Updated: Feb 17, 2021
Spicers Potts Point is located on Victoria Street in Potts Point one of Sydney's oldest suburbs, it's location is within close walking distance of Woolloomooloo wharf restaurant precinct and within walking distance of the Sydney Opera House. The hotel is housed in three converted victorian terraces which date back to the 1800's, the hotel is boutique with only 16 rooms and offers a range of accomodation from modern queen rooms housed in the newer part of the building at the rear of the hotel through to the historical Victoria Terrace Suites located in the converted terraces at the front of the hotel. We were able to book this hotel through Virgin Holidays which allowed us to earn Velocity points on our stay.

The Room
We were excited to see our Victoria Terrace Suite as we had never stayed in a historical victorian terrace before, the suite occupied the entire second floor of the terrace and has a large ensuite at the rear of the terrace with freestanding bath, seperate shower, marble fireplace and features Leif Australian made toiletries. The bedroom is located in the front two thirds of the building and has its own private balcony accessed by two french doors and has views of the tree lined street as well as glimpses of the Sydney CBD over the rooftops of the buildings across the road. The room has a stocked mini bar, locally sourced tea and coffee, a flat screen TV, writing desk and surprisingly a record player which you can use by borrowing records from reception. There was complimentary filtered water beside the bed which is provided in reusable glass bottles as well as complimentary cookies. The room also features a super comfortable king bed, fireplace and couch at the end of the bed. We absolutely loved the suite and especially the balcony where we spent a lot of time relaxing with a glass of wine whilst watching the cockatoos in the large trees that line Victoria Street.
Customer Service
We found the customer service exceptional and could not fault the service at all. We love the personalised feel we received from the staff but also loved the fact that we felt at home at Spicers Potts Point, we could come and go without constantly bumping in to staff but at the same time they were always on hand to assist with anything we needed.
Restaurants & Bars
The hotel does not have an onsite restaurant, however it does have a breakfast room where they serve breakfast between 7am & 10:30am which is in the form of a cold buffet and a cook to order menu. Our breakfast was included in the room rate but if it is not included in the rate the prices are listed on the menu. The hotel also offers evening canapés and an honor bar at the reception area from 5pm nightly. The hotel does have a room service option where you can choose items from local restaurant menus and the hotel will arrange to collect and deliver your food to you. We loved the feel of the hotels breakfast room, reception and lounge areas which are all located in what would have originally been the backyard of the three terraces, it's quirky, chic and a relaxing environment.
Hotel Facilities
Except for what we've mentioned above the hotel does not have any other onsite facilities other than a conference room due to the restrictions of having a hotel in a historic building but it has partnered with a nearby gym for those needing to work out, there is an in room massage service for those wanting a day spa experience and there are many excellent restaurants and cafes all within short walking distance of the hotel. It's definitely worth mentioning The Butler which is just across the road where you can have dinner with a view of the city or just pop in for a nightcap before bed.
Summary
We absolutely loved Spicers Potts Point, we weren't sure what to expect since Spicers generally run resort style retreats in rural areas however there is something about the peacefulness of these old victorian terraces and of course the location on beautiful tree lined Victoria Street. The staff were amazing and made us feel at home, we loved the quirkiness of the hotel and our cockatoo friends that kept us company on our balcony, we felt like we were kids in a tree house. I would say that of the many many hotels we have visited in Sydney Spicers Potts Point is by far the best we have stayed in, would we stay at Spicers Potts Point again? Answer: Definately yes, it now sits on the top of our Sydney list.
